The Complexities of Setting Up a Bar

Most of us have visited them numerous times and have perhaps never wondered about all the complexities of running a bar and its not until you are the other side of the taps do you realise the number of glasses, tools and accessories that are required to keep an average bar running is staggering.
And if you are opening your own restaurant, bar or hotel, keeping bar is something that require a lot of thought as there is a lot more required than just glasses and mats and while all the bar equipment needed is far too numerous too mention and depends on bar to bar, if you are setting up a bar its a good idea to section off areas and think of the bar equipment needed:
Bar
The bar itself is quite light on equipment. The only thing needed are beer mats (otherwise your staff will be constantly wiping up spills) and other than snacks its often a good idea to keep the bar clear anyway. Under the bar many establishments keep a good selection of glasses but its a good idea to make sure the bar trays are big enough to catch spills from the taps and pumps.
Back Bar
Perhaps where all the action takes place and this is where you will need all the accessories for mixing and making drinks. From ice buckets, stirrers, thimble measures, spirit measures, tumblers, corkscrews – the list can be endless especially if you are setting up a cocktail bar when its best to keep a good selection of garnish for the glasses too.
Cellar Equipment & Back room
Perhaps the heart of any bar is below stairs abut many bars don't have traditional cellars anymore but the beer still needs to be changed and its essential all the equipment is to hand when a barrel needs to be changed. Its also important that all the equipment required to wash glasses is in plentiful supply as a bar will grind to a halt if there are no clean glasses just as swiftly as if there is no beer.
Setting up a bar can be daunting, especially if its your own business and nobody wants their business to fail so it is important that a lot of thought goes into ordering bar equipment and what is required. Fortunately the internet is a great source for finding a good supplier of bar equipment.
